What a wonderful web site you have! I had a great time tonight 'rooting' around and enjoying the results of your group's 'labor of love' in preserving these graves. My great-grandfather, James Ross, was born in the parish of Alves and immigrated to South Africa around 1903. Most of my Ross family, being from Forres, are buried in the Cluny Hill Cemetery...which I did not see included in your web site. Is there any reason for this? Thanks you again for all your hard work and for making this information available.

In regard to Cluny Cemetery in Forres, it is in fact mentioned at the bottom of our Home Page under work in progress. One of our members has single-handedly recorded almost three quarters of the tombstones in Cluny so far, and in a month or so I hope to begin making a photographic archive of them as well. This is a huge project and naturally will take sometime for our volunteers to complete. However, We hope that the results of this research should be published sometime during 2009-2010, all being well. (Keith Mitchell)
Andre is also particularly interested in any ancestors or descendants of Alexander Ross (c. 1847 - 1912), and his wife Isabella Asher (c. 1848 - 1930), for it is Alexander and Isabella who are the progenitors of all the living members of his branch of the Ross family and their descendants in Scotland, South Africa, and New Zealand. (Libindx Headstone ref: Fc597) If you have a connection with this family, Andre would like to hear from you. (Webmaster) |

I have a query. I had relatives going way back around Nairn Forres etc., and have found a birth in the area of Urquart and Logie Wester, and wondered in what area this might have been in the late 1700 - 1800's. Thanks

Try Libindx web site and look up NM 023358 & NM 023361 which may help your search. (From Ruth McIntosh) |

I have been researching my mothers family who were Robertsons at Knockando. I have found some very helpful websites and the society on King Street but I dont seem to be able to get a copy of the church yard plot layouts. I was wondering if you have produced a Monumental Inscription booklet for Knockando, these seem very useful and really great to have. Thanks

Could be a couple of years before Knockando is researched by MBGRG, but pre 1855 stones are recorded in 'Speyside MI's' by Allison Mitchell. Moray Local Heritage Centre also holds much useful information. |

The links to Alan Wilson's wonderful monochrome photographs of Spynie Churchyard and Elgin Cathedral have been removed for our 'Links' page. Alan has informed me that they are no longer on-line. I will re-instate new links when/if they become available in the future.

I am researching FRASER family of Rafford, Moray. I recently read your booklet on Rafford Churchyard & Cemetery. Although I found no reference to my Fraser family I got an impression of the work you have done which is invaluable to researchers accross the world - thank you. I wonder if someone could comment on my difficulty finding any of my Rafford ancestors when at least 5 generations were born in Rafford between 1730 & 1821. Some of them must have died in Rafford?

Apart from one buried stone (1753), all other 'Fraser' deaths recorded on MIs in the old Rafford Churchyard are post 1826. |

Have traced husband's family to Plewlands in Drainie. Have James Dick in Duffus 1668. Coming up to your area next week and hoping to spend day in Lossiemouth Elgin area. Where is best place to continue search.

Suggest Moray Local Heritage Centre, in Elgin, would be a good starting point. |
